Jeremiah receives word from the Lord that he is to crank up his preaching to have Israel turn from their sinful ways. “Perhaps they will listen and turn back, each from his evil way, so that I may repent of the evil I have planned to inflict upon them for their evil deeds.”
seems to be describing people like Jed Smock, who is a famous campus preacher. Most people think that these preachers are upsetting, teaching bad theology, and just plain mean spirited. I am pretty sure that Jeremiah and other prophets were accused of being upsetting, teaching bad theology, and just plain mean spirited. I think that I have a much better understanding of why prophets were hated when I hear Jed speak.
